Checklist for an Effective resume Writing

Resume is the first channel to get you to interview. Resume gives the first impression on you. Review your resume before processing to any company. Attach covering letter while sending your profile to any company. Your resume can either be in MS Word format or PDF. Here are the few basic points which will help you in writing it effectively.

Keep it short

Remember that there will be many who would have applied for a particular position and the hiring manager will have few seconds to validate your profile. Hence keep it short and effective. Don’t try to fit too many information and don’t try to sell too much. So avoid paragraphs. Make bullet points. Also tables are out!

Main points to be highlighted in the resume are:

Headline/Title

followed by your name, Email-id, Contact Number/Address/ URL of your website if any

Objective

Portray in a single line on your ability which can be beneficial to a company

Summary

Briefly mention about the your total experience, key skills and the domains you had worked.

Employment History

Details about the company, duration, position and the responsibilities carried out by you. Mention the details of current company followed by the previous ones (reverse chronological order).

Education details

Write them in a reverse chronological order and the details like university/school and year of pass out etc.

Accomplishments

Any recognition or rewards given by any of your employer

Personal Information(Optional)

You can mention your hobbies and interest.

Spell Check

Use simple language. It is very important to cross check your spelling and grammar are correct.

White Space

Use enough white spaces so that it looks neat and each category is easily identified. Also bullets must be aligned accordingly.

Font

Maintain the same font thought your resume. Keep headline and subtitles in Bold and little bigger font size than the remaining body. Font size should be medium and readable. Commonly used fonts are Times New Roman,Arial, Helvetica or Verdana. Colour should be black.

Use these effective methods of resume formatting. You will have a high chance to get the attention from hiring team!
